Superior Hiking Trail
The Superior Hiking Trail runs right through Lutsen Mountains and can be accessible from our base area by walking down the street to a trail head located a couple hundred yards past the new Charlie's Alpine Bistro and Gondola Area. The Superior Hiking Trail (SHT) is a 310-mile footpath in northeastern Minnesota, renowned for its stunning views of Lake Superior and the Sawtooth Mountains. It meanders through diverse terrain, including boreal forests, cliffs, and waterways, offering both challenging climbs and rewarding vistas.

The Gitchie-Gamie Trail
Several segments of the Gitchi-Gami State Trail have been completed, including access from the bottom of Lutsen Mountains Access Road. This paved section is now totaling over 36 miles. When complete, the trail will be an 86 mile paved trail for non-motorized use, connecting Two Harbors to Grand Marais along the North Shore of Lake Superior. Much of the trail will be located in abandoned segments or right-of-way on Highway 61, while other segments will allow you to sample a diversity of the North Shore's varied environments.
This trail is perfect for family bike rides, walks, or runs along the shores of Lake Superior providing unbelieveable views without having to worry too much about footing etc.
Superior National Golf Course
The Superior National Golf Course can be seen from the top of Moose Mountain and is at the foot of Lutsen Mountains. Located on the North Shore of Lake Superior you will find one of the most scenic and fun golf courses you may have ever seen or played. Our 27-holes recently improved from tee-to-green on the River and Canyon premier 18-holes, making it into one of the best courses in Minnesota. The Mountain 9-holes are great for that "Emergency 9" before or after your 18-hole play, or that casual mid-day round.
Also for those with families looking for a less stressful and more fun activity, try Foot Golf, a very fun game for groups and the family based around soccer where you kick the ball to the hole from start to finish.
