70% open for the holidays with solid coverage (conditions holding strong)

Mountain Report

Holiday Break Terrain Outlook

With steady winter weather since Thanksgiving and consistently productive snowmaking windows, we’re heading into the holiday stretch right on track and in great shape across the entire resort. By Christmas week and into the first weekend of the new year, we expect to offer roughly 70% of our total trail acreage for skiing and riding across Moose, Eagle, and Ullr Mountains.

Moose Mountain will showcase a strong lineup of terrain for the holidays, with excellent coverage and expanded options for guests looking for our signature long, scenic runs. Looking ahead, we expect to be making snow on Cougar and Grizzly at some point during the holidays which presents the opportunity for some bonus openings around the start of the new year!

All in all, the holiday stretch is shaping up to be one of our best in years—packed with great snow, wide‑open runs, and expansive lake views. We can't wait to see you out on the slopes!

Daily Mountain Report Update

Lutsen Mountains – Mountain Report
December 23

Good morning from Lutsen Mountains! ☀️

Today, December 23rd, we expect some sunshine, but pretty substantial winds. There will be a possibility of wind holds, primarily on the gondola. Fortunately, the Moose Mountain access trail has been groomed and will be ready for public use, so Caribou will be available regardless. If we must suspend the gondola, a bus will be available to shuttle guests from Moose back to the main side.

As a reminder, below is how we adjust Lift Ops for wind:

Under 30 MPH: Normal operations

30-40 MPH: Reduced lift speed

40-50 MPH: Slow lift speed and occasional "wind faults" when gusts occur

50+ MPH: Suspending operations recommended

Thanks to ongoing snowmaking and grooming efforts, we’re excited to announce additional terrain openings soon! Whether you’re looking for smooth, confidence-building runs or ready to explore newly opened slopes, there’s more mountain to enjoy.

The Summit restaurant at the top of the Gondola is open. Guests that are not skiing/riding themselves, can still get up to the top of the Moose mountain to take in the beautiful views and grab a bite to eat (as long as the gondola is operating).

Today’s Highlights:

  • Expanded open terrain across Eagle and Moose Mountain

  • Great surface conditions on groomed runs

Come on out and make some turns at Lutsen. We’ll see you on the slopes!
