Position Overview
Pro Patrollers are responsible for maintaining a safe mountain environment for all guests and staff. This includes responding to medical emergencies, enforcing mountain safety policies, conducting rescue operations, and ensuring the ski area is well-marked and secure. Patrollers serve as ambassadors of safety and preparedness, upholding the highest standards of guest care and mountain operations.
KEY REPSONSIBILTIES
Medical Response & Care
- Provide immediate emergency care to injured guests and staff on the mountain.
- Transport patients using toboggans and snowmobiles in various snow and terrain conditions.
- Complete accurate and timely patient care, accident, and incident reports.
Rescue & Safety Operations
- Participate in lift evacuation drills and high-angle rescue scenarios.
- Lead or assist in search and rescue efforts.
- Monitor and mitigate on-mountain hazards and changing conditions.
- Conduct trail sweeps at day’s start and end to ensure all guests are safely off the mountain.
Safety Systems & Enforcement
- Install, inspect, and maintain trail signage, ropes, fencing, and boundary markers.
- Identify, intercept, and educate reckless skiers or guests about violating safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively via two-way radio for coordination and emergency response.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide direction and mentoring to volunteer and auxiliary patrollers.
- Engage in regular training to maintain proficiency in patrol and medical skills.
- Maintain current certifications and support a culture of continuous improvement.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifications
- Current Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certification or higher (EMT, Paramedic preferred).
- Active member of the National Ski Patrol (NSP) is preferred but not required.
- BLS CPR/AED certified (American Heart Association or equivalent).
- Valid Class D driver’s license (or ability to obtain).
- Snowmobile operation experience preferred or ability to train.
Physical Requirements
- Must have some beginner to intermediate level ability to ski or snowboard.
- Ability to work long hours outdoors in extreme weather (cold, snow, wind, heat).
- Able to walk, hike, climb, and balance on uneven and sometimes icy terrain.
- Regularly lift and carry up to 25 lbs; frequently 30–50 lbs; occasionally up to 75 lbs.
- Must be able to work variable shifts including weekends, holidays, and peak business periods.
