Mountain Report - May 16th, 2026

Happy Opening Day of Summer 2026 at Lutsen Mountains! ☀️

We’re kicking things off with a beautiful day on the North Shore—warm temps, sunny skies, and perfect conditions to get outside and enjoy it. The gondola will be open from 10am–5pm and the alpine slide from 11am–5pm.

Winds are gusty out of the northwest around 25 mph at the base, and fire danger is extremely high, so please dispose of cigarette butts in approved containers only.

Looking ahead, we do have rain in the forecast for tomorrow afternoon, so if you’re planning to join us, come up early to make the most of the day before any potential weather holds or closures. Enjoy it out there!

*9:15am update - Wind gusts at the summit are approaching 60mph, so the gondola will start the day on wind hold. Our team will evaluate conditions every 30 minutes and will open when conditions allow.

*10:15am update - Wind gusts have subsided some allowing the gondola to operate at reduced speeds. The gondola will open by 10:30am today.
